Project Tracking and Control 1 Day Duration

Introduction
You have planned, estimated, and scheduled your project; now the fun begins – you need to track the progress of various team members, assess the impact of their performance on the currently promised cost, functionality, and schedule, and report the project progress to their manager, customers, and the sponsor. All of this, you must do efficiently, effectively, and routinely. To do this well, you need to define appropriate metrics that will provide you with accurate project status supported by a well-documented process for the team members to report their individual performance in a timely fashion. For efficient project progress tracking, not only do you have to look back to see the progress achieved by various team members, you also need to look-ahead to ensure smooth and unobstructed execution of planned tasks in a timely fashion. Efficient and effective project tracking is both an art and science, and project managers need to learn the necessary tools to master both skills.

Objectives
The goals of this session are to give participants a strong foundation for effective and efficient progress tracking, and the skills needed to achieve timely completion of their projects, while maintaining the agreed upon functionality (scope), budget, and quality of their projects. The participants are given the opportunity to develop viable solutions to common project management problems using a real-life project schedule as a case study.

Upon successful completion of this seminar participants will be able to:

  • Identify the vital signs required to monitor their projects
  • Determine vital signs reporting thresholds
  • Recognize key progress reports used to update management on project status
  • Measure variance from the established norms
  • Compute impact of of each vital sign’s variance on the critical path and budget
  • Develop adjustment scenarios for out-of-limit variances
  • Propose recovery steps for out-of-limit variances

  • Seminar Audience
Project managers and team members as well as anyone else interested in learning the tools and techniques for project tracking and control.

    Case Study
Groups of participants form into teams and practice the tools and techniques being taught in the seminar on a real-life project.
